Poultry feeding

The feeding system delivers feed from the bin to every feeder. Feed must arrive evenly along the whole line and in the right amount for the specific group of animals.

In a poultry house

Feeder lines run along the house; they are winched up for cleaning and adjusted in height as the birds grow.

Schematic, not to scale. Air movement follows typical Exafan schemes.

How it works

A feeding line is calculated from the feed store to the last feeder: line lengths, feeders per head, drives and fill sensors.

What it is made of

  • Feeder lines with pansLines with feeder pans along the house.
  • Feed distributionConveying feed to the lines.
  • Drives and sensorsLine motors and fill sensors.

Feed silos and conveying

Feed is stored in silos next to the house and conveyed inside to the feeder lines. Silo capacity and number are chosen for the flock size and feed delivery schedule.

Silo, conveyor and feeder lines work as one chain: if one link cannot keep up, feed does not reach the birds on time. That is why we calculate them together.

  • Silos and binsOutdoor feed storage next to the house.
  • Auger conveyorsFeed from the silo to the feeder line hoppers.
  • Level sensorsMonitoring silo and hopper levels.

Silo positions are coordinated with the site layout, feed truck access and the feeder line entry into the house.

What the calculation needs

If the data is sufficient, a preliminary calculation is possible before a site visit.

  • Number and groups of animals
  • Building dimensions and line layout
  • How feed is stored and delivered now
  • Flock size and number of houses
  • How often feed is delivered
  • Site plan around the house
