Engineering for poultry houses

We design and commission the systems of a poultry house as one whole: ventilation and climate, cooling, heating, feeding, drinking and feed storage. Our completed projects in this sector are broiler complexes.

The house from above

Air, heat, feed and water share one building and depend on each other, so we design these systems together. Point at a system or pick a legend item to see where it sits in the house.

Schematic, not to scale. Air movement follows typical Exafan schemes.

Ventilation

For poultry houses we calculate two main modes, minimum ventilation through chimneys and side inlets and tunnel ventilation for hot weather, plus the controlled transition between them.

Climate control

In a poultry house the programme takes the flock from start-up heating to tunnel mode in hot weather and manages the transition between ventilation modes.

Cooling

Pads are placed at the tunnel inlet and sized for the tunnel-mode air exchange: all incoming air must pass through them.

Heating

We size the capacity for the house volume and region to reach the placement temperature and hold it in winter.

Feeding

Feeder lines run along the house; they are winched up for cleaning and adjusted in height as the birds grow.

Drinking

We calculate the number of lines and nipples for the flock size and house width and align the lines with the feeder lines.

Feed silos and conveying

Silo positions are coordinated with the site layout, feed truck access and the feeder line entry into the house.

What a poultry house has to deliver

Chicks inside a Shar Farm poultry house with feed and water lines, bedding and suspended equipment
  • Stable climate in every seasonMinimum ventilation without chilling in winter, tunnel mode and cooling in summer, with a controlled transition between modes.
  • Equal conditions along the houseAir, feed and water must be available evenly in every zone, not only near the inlet.
  • Heat at start-upHeating brings the house to the right temperature before placement and holds it without overheating.
  • Uninterrupted feedSilo, conveyor and feeder lines are calculated as one chain for the flock size.

What the calculation needs

If the data is sufficient, a preliminary calculation is possible before a site visit.

  • House dimensions: length, width, wall height, roof type
  • Number of birds placed
  • Region, for the summer and winter modes
  • New build, reconstruction or replacement of one system
  • Drawings or photos of the building, if available

A calculation before the visit

Send us the data listed above. Poultry will already be selected in the form.
