Cooling reduces heat stress on the animals in hot weather. Air passes through wetted pads and is cooled before it enters the building.
In a pig complex
In our pig projects cooling pads work as part of the overall room climate system.
How it works
Evaporative cooling uses the heat of the air to evaporate water.
The air temperature falls and its humidity rises. That is why we always calculate cooling together with ventilation.
For pads to work, the air must pass through them and water must wet their whole area evenly. Pad area is chosen so that air velocity through the pads is not excessive.
What it is made of
- Evaporative padsPorous media through which the incoming air passes.
- Water supplyPump, distribution pipe above the pads, collection and return.
- Filtration and bleed-offFilter and partial drain to limit deposits in the pads.
- ControlCooling switched by the controller on temperature and humidity.
